Brighde is one of the most loved and enduring figures in Celtic tradition. Known by many names, including Brigid, Bride and, in some traditions, Brigantia, she has been honoured across Ireland, Scotland and other Celtic lands for centuries.
She is associated with healing, creativity, poetry, inspiration, craftsmanship, the hearth and the sacred flame. Closely linked with the festival of Imbolc, Brighde represents the return of the light, the first stirrings of spring and the promise of new beginnings.
Over time, many of Brighde’s qualities became woven together with those of Saint Brigid of Kildare, reflecting the rich and complex cultural history of the Celtic world.
For me, Brighde represents compassion, creativity, courage and service. She inspires me to honour the rhythms of nature, nurture community and create spaces where people can reconnect with themselves and with one another.
